HEARING the UNHEARD is a campaign dedicated to empowering children with hearing impairments. Through this campaign we strive to create a world where every child, regardless of their hearing ability, has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Through various programs, including specialized educational support, healthcare services, community building initiatives, and awareness campaigns, Hearing the Unheard works tirelessly to break down communication barriers, promote inclusion, and ensure that children with hearing loss have access to the resources and support they need to thrive.
Our dedication to creating a brighter future for children with hearing impairments is truly inspiring, and their impact is evident in the countless lives they have touched and transformed.
In 2022, a beacon of hope emerged for children with hearing impairments - HEARING the UNHEARD founded by Flora Modesty. This non-profit organization was born from a vision of a world where every child, regardless of their hearing ability, could thrive. Driven by this vision, HEARING the UNHEARD embarked on a journey to empower these children and create a society that embraced inclusivity.
From the outset, the organization focused on three key objectives:
Access to Quality Education: Understanding the unique challenges faced by children with hearing impairments in mainstream schools, Hearing the Unheard implemented specialized educational support programs. These programs provided assistive technologies, addressed communication barriers, and empowered teachers with skills to effectively support these students.
Holistic Healthcare: Recognizing the importance of comprehensive healthcare for children with hearing impairments, the organization facilitated access to early diagnosis, medical professionals, and specialized care. Additionally, it offered support and counseling for families coping with hearing loss, ensuring not just physical well-being, but also emotional and mental health.
Building a Supportive Community: To combat the social isolation often experienced by children with hearing impairments, Hearing the Unheard created a vibrant and supportive community. Through social events, activities, and awareness campaigns, the organization fostered connections, belonging, and a sense of acceptance.
Within its first year, Hearing the Unheard achieved significant milestones, testament to its dedication and impact:
Fundraising: Raising a substantial 700,000/= allowed the organization to directly support its programs and initiatives.
Accessibility: Providing sign language materials to school libraries enhanced accessibility to learning resources for students with hearing impairments.
Awareness: Launching social media and media campaigns reached a wide audience, promoting greater understanding and acceptance of hearing loss.
Community Building: Creating social bonds for 14 students fostered meaningful connections, combating social isolation and promoting belonging.
Educational Support: Partnering with teachers ensured increased access to information for beneficiaries, enriching their learning experiences.
Empowering Youth: Supporting 123 youth through various programs provided them with the tools and resources needed to thrive.
